A Cynical Mindset: I don’t support the military. And I don’t support war. I don’t believe...
Please do not reproduce. Without those people going off to fight those wars, your country could and probably would be buttfucked by any number of terrorist groups. Or what if nobody went to war to stop hitler? Do we just let dictators kill innocents and do as they please to who and where they please? Without people fighting for your country your education and healthcare would be the least of your worries. Fucking hell people are stupid. I get you are entitled to an opinion but, Jesus.I don’t support the military. And I don’t support war. I don’t believe that they’re actually fighting “for our country” it’s obvious that they’re just in it for the money and benefits. Our tax dollars could be spent on health care and education, shit that actually matters. But instead it’s spent…
I understand not supporting the war, but the entire military? Even if their first priority when enlisting is for the money and/or benefits, like most of my friends who have chosen to enlist, it’s because they have no other options - and even then, they know the risk they’re taking. For example, my niece’s father (him and my sister have been divorced for a while) got his certification for some type of computer programming, but couldn’t find a job for it. He was stuck working for his father’s landscaping company, which was already falling under. Neither of them could afford health insurance for my niece, much less could they start saving for a college fund, so that’s when he decided to enlist - for his daughter.
And for my other friends, they were not brought up in stable households. Their parents, more or less, let them choose whether they wanted to stay in school or not at the tender age of 15 - and naturally, they didn’t. Both of them come from families who live off of welfare willingly, and never had any real guidance from their parents to put them in the right direction. They’ve both done a year over in Iraq, and yes, the money is great, but more importantly, they’ve become responsible adults.
And your logic on spending on education is flawed. There’s already way too much money being pumped into the education system, which is why tuition is skyrocketing almost twice as fast as the average salary. Your logic on health care is flawed too, since it seems like you’re implying that tax dollars should equate to free education and health care. While both would be nice, they’re unconstitutional in the US.
And lastly, those who are fighting for our country - whether that’s what they’ve always wanted to do or not - deserve some substantial help when they return. If you don’t like how it works, there’s roughly 200 other countries you can pick from to live in.
